5 common mistakes that ruin your car’s paint (and how to avoid them)

Your car is a bit like your business card: clean, well-kept bodywork always makes a good impression. But a few everyday habits can seriously damage your paint. Here are the 5 most common mistakes… and, above all, how to avoid them.

1. The automatic car wash, over and overConvenient, yes. Safe for the paint? Not always. The brushes can hold grit that leaves scratches, while touchless washes often use harsh products that can break down the protection applied to your vehicle.

👉 Tip: go with a hand wash and a soft sponge.

2. Bird droppings left on too long On top of being unpleasant, they’re acidic and go after the clear coat fast.

👉 Clean them off as soon as you can with a damp cloth.

3. Small chips ignored A small chip quickly becomes a big problem once rust sets in.

👉 Get them touched up before it’s too late.

4. Washing in full sun The water dries too fast and leaves mineral spots.

👉 Wash your car in the shade or early in the morning.

5. The wrong cloths An old rag can cause micro-scratches.

👉 Always use a clean, soft microfibre.

In short: good preventive care saves you plenty of trouble (and plenty of money).
