“Lifetime warranty” has become a popular selling point in the bodywork industry. But what does it actually mean? Are all lifetime warranties the same? Spoiler: no. At Débossatec, we believe a real warranty builds trust… and that it has to be earned.
🔍 What exactly is a lifetime warranty?
In principle, a lifetime warranty covers defects tied to a repair — for the whole life of the vehicle. Not the life of the owner, and not 5 or 10 years, but as long as you own your vehicle.
But watch out. What that warranty covers (or doesn’t) varies enormously from one shop to the next.
✅ What a real lifetime warranty should include:
- Paint that chips or peels
- Rust coming back where the repair was done
- Cracks or dents that weren’t fixed properly
- Mouldings or parts put back badly that come loose
And above all: no coming back every year to have the repair “inspected”. A real warranty isn’t a subscription in disguise.
❌ What it doesn’t cover (and that’s normal):
- Damage from a new accident
- Normal wear (e.g. stone chips on the hood)
- Damage caused by products or treatments applied afterward
- Repairs done somewhere else, after our work
🛠 Why can’t every body shop offer that?
Offering a real lifetime warranty takes constant discipline:
- Quality products (no bargain-bin paint)
- Complete prep steps (no corners cut)
- Proven techniques, matched to each case
- A team that does the work right… even when nobody’s watching
At Débossatec, every job is done as if the car were our own. And every vehicle is inspected personally by the owner before it leaves the shop. That’s why we can stand behind this warranty.
👀 How do you spot a fake warranty?
Here are a few red flags to watch for:
- You’re told “lifetime warranty,” but nothing is in writing.
- The word “warranty” shows up… but without the details.
- You have to come back every year to “validate” it.
- It only covers the paint, not rust or repair defects.
- And our favourite: some customers have told us it was explained to them that a lifetime warranty means 7 years. (!)
👉 If it sounds vague or too good to be true… take the time to ask questions.
💬 In short
A lifetime warranty isn’t just a phrase that sounds good. It’s a long-term commitment to quality. At Débossatec, it’s our way of telling you:
