Step 1 — Deep wash: the most overlooked step... and the most critical

People tend to think washing a car is simple: a hose, a bit of soap, a quick scrub and it’s done. But in a shop like Débossatec, a wash is a lot more than that.

It’s the first step of an 8-phase process to bring your paint back to its full shine — and if it’s done badly, it can ruin everything that follows.

Here’s how we do it, and why it changes everything.

💧 A bad wash = guaranteed micro-scratches

Most of the small scratches you see on paint (the famous "swirls") come from washing:

  • A sponge that’s too rough
  • Sand particles that weren’t rinsed off
  • A scrubbing technique that’s too aggressive
  • Skipping sensitive areas like the inner fenders

At Débossatec, we don’t take any chances.

🚿 Our wash method, step by step

  1. 01We start with a good rinse using the pressure washer, to take off the worst of the contaminants.
  2. 02We wash with a double-sided chenille microfibre mitt, made to hold the dirt without marking the surface.
  3. 03We always work from the top down:BodyworkDoor jambsTrunk interiorRocker panelsInner fenders

  8. 08Inner fenders
  9. 09We rinse thoroughly so no soap residue is left behind.
  10. 10And we dry with a soft chamois and compressed air, to pull the water out even of the crevices you can’t see with the naked eye.

🧠 Pro tip: watch the spots everyone forgets

Door jambs, the bottom of the trunk and the inner fenders often get skipped… but those are exactly the places where dirt builds up and where rust can start.

Here, we treat them with as much care as the hood.

🎯 Why this step is crucial

A good wash doesn’t just make the car clean. It preps the surface for the steps that come next:

  • Decontamination
  • Polishing
  • The protective sealant

If dirt stays on the surface, it can cause micro-scratches during polishing… or keep the sealant from bonding properly.

👉 Next step: decontamination. Because a shiny surface isn’t always a clean surface…
