1. Prevent instead of correct
Contaminants like salt, bugs, tree sap and brake dust work their way in over time. The longer you wait, the more they damage the surface. Frequent upkeep gets them off before they do any harm.
2. Get the most life out of your treatments
Ceramic, wax, polish… all of these treatments have a limited lifespan. Good upkeep helps keep them working longer.
3. Catch problems early
By cleaning your car regularly, you spot chips, stains or signs of corrosion faster. That way you can act before it turns into an expensive problem.
How often should I take care of my car?
Here’s a baseline schedule you can adjust to how you use your vehicle:
- Full wash: every 2 weeks (or more often in winter or after a long trip)
- Cleaning the wheels and rocker panels: every wash
- Air dryer or chamois: every wash, to avoid water spots
- Quick interior clean: every 2 weeks (at the same time as the exterior wash)
- Sealant/wax upkeep: every 3 to 4 months
- Paint inspection (chips, rust, defects): every month
Checklist – paint upkeep
Here’s a simple checklist to keep on your phone or in your garage:
✅ Wash the car in the shade or on a cloudy day
✅ Use a good microfibre wash mitt (skip hard sponges)
✅ Wash from top to bottom, one section at a time
✅ Clean the wheels and rocker panels separately
✅ Dry with a chamois or compressed air
✅ Inspect for chips, stains or rust
✅ Apply a finishing spray (quick detailer) if you want
✅ Note the date of the last wax or treatment
✅ Stay away from automatic car washes with brushes
✅ Plan your next wash (in 2 weeks!)
You invested in your car – protect that investment
Taking care of your paint isn’t only about looks. It’s also about protecting your vehicle’s value, keeping rust away, and driving with pride every day.
